Group Play & Our Newest Staff Member: Blue Cheese!

Better Dog Boarding with Group Play

At Alpha Valley Boarding Kennel we pride ourselves in our ability to assess what makes each individual dog as happy as they can be.  For some, that happiness comes from the joy of playing with other dogs!

There are many benefits in allowing your dog into group play at a boarding kennel, including an increased amount of exercise, which leads to better sleep and better appetite.  Improving sleep and increasing appetite are some of the best ways to ensure a dog has a well-rounded, comforting and safe boarding experience!

Allowing Group Play for Dogs while Keeping Them Safe

Acceptable group play behavior includes specific gestures such as play bows, wagging tails, lots of sniffing and a relaxed posture.  At Alpha Valley Boarding Kennel we check for these signs immediately upon introducing dogs to each other, and we stay with them until these behaviors are shown.  If these behaviors aren't expressed, we disband the group play.  Our commitment to the safety of each and every dog at our boarding kennel is paramount.

Group Play for Single Dogs?

Some dogs don't play well with others, and that's OK.  Our policy is to never mix dogs from different families unless the owners of all dogs involved have approved them for group play and they pass our temperament test.  In other words, only if a dog's owners have approved them for group play—and the dog has proven that they can play nicely—will a dog be allowed to play and socialize with other dogs while boarding at Alpha Valley.

But what happens if your dog loves interacting with other furry friends, and is the only dog available for group play?  What if you’re only dropping off one dog, and no other dogs at the kennel have been approved to play with your furry friend? How can we offer group play when no other dogs have passed the temperament test and had the 'rents sign their permission slip???

In the past we have always opted for one-on-one time with a staff member as a solution for dogs in need of increased play to ensure a good boarding kennel experience when there are no other dogs that meet the criteria to play together.  But now with the hiring of our newest employee, we no longer have to worry about any dog being lonely!

Introducing: Blue Cheese!!!

Get better group play with AVBK's Cheesy Ambassador!

Blue is a one year old Great Pyrenees mix who absolutely adores other dogs and wants nothing more than to make every dog his friend.

Blue Cheese was originally one of our many clients here at Alpha Valley Boarding Kennel.  One day the owner of AVBK, Kyrstin, confessed to Blue's owners that he was one of her favorite clients, as well as being one of her favorite breeds.  Later, his previous family could no longer care for Blue, and they knew right away who would be the best fit for him.  Kyrstin just couldn’t say no!

Ever since, Blue Cheese has been entertaining the dogs of Alpha Valley Boarding Kennel every single day.  Great Pyrenees dogs are known for their gentle nature towards other animals, and Blue Cheese has proven to be a champion in this regard.  Additionally, he is a great communicator, and lets everyone know exactly what acceptable group play behavior looks like!
